Our organization continues to be humbled and grateful for the caliber of volunteers that feel drawn to our mission. Attorney Nahale Kalfas is a solo practitioner specializing in Administrative Law. For the past fourteen years, she has been responsible for prosecutorial hearings, settlements, rulemaking, and legislative matters as General Counsel for the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

She received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1997. She provides guidance with regard to best practices for state regulatory boards and licensure compact agencies as a faculty member on the Panel of Experts for the Occupational Licensing Consortium sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor in conjunction with the Council of State Governments, National Governor’s Association (NGA) and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).

In addition to her board position with StrongHER TogetHER, she is on the Executive Board of the Administrative Law Council of the North Carolina Bar Association and is a course planner and frequent speaker at the NCSB Annual Conference and the North Carolina Occupational Agencies Annual Best Practices Seminar.

Nahale’s daughter, Lana Kalfas, sparked her interest in StrongHER TogetHER when she began volunteering and initiated an informal collaboration with her Durham Academy SHE club and ST. As Nahale watched Lana work with, and get to know the effervescent girls in ST, she realized that the organization served a vital role that is not often filled in such a holistic manner that encourages real connection and exposure to female participation and leadership across many fields.

Nahale was particularly drawn to the fostering of a “sisterhood” among girls that may otherwise never have the chance to know and learn from one another in a substantive way over several years and stages of their lives. “I am so honored to be part of a Board from which there is much to learn!”

Says Executive Director Stacey Donoghue, “Nahale’s daughter, Lana, has been a part of StrongHER TogetHER since our earliest days. She was one of our first youth representatives and despite being away for college, continues to be an integral part of our program today. When Nahale joined our leadership team, we were gobsmacked at our good fortune!

Two Kalfas women in one program are the stuff of non-profit nirvana! Today Nahale is preparing to assist with fundraising efforts, she offers creative programming ideas and she is a partner to our Governance team as well. We are so grateful for Nahale’s commitment to our mission and for the board experience she brings. She is helping us build the foundation for our future and making us a better program every single day.“
