Finance Director - Durham Academy

Verdina Walker is the Finance Director at Durham Academy, whose mission is to prepare each student to live a moral, happy, and productive life. Verdina’s role is to provide support to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer while leading the Business Office functions of the organization as the school’s financial priorities continue to grow and develop. She also actively engages with students as one of the Advisors for the Upper School Black Affinity Group (BAG) along with taking advantage of other opportunities presented on the various campuses.

In addition to the time she commits to her career, Verdina is also an active member of the Junior League of Raleigh, which is a local chapter of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., an international organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Her membership in this organization allows her the opportunity to connect with other like-minded women who have a desire to make an impact on their local community through service, education, and charitable giving.  Throughout the years, Verdina has been affiliated with other service-minded organizations such as the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Mocha Moms, Inc., located in Atlanta, GA. Giving back is of utmost importance to her.

Verdina is a proud graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She credits her foundation in accounting and in life to the many lessons she learned in and outside of the classroom as a student.

Her commitment and service to her alma mater were recognized when she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO).  She was also honored to be included as one of Who’s Who in Black Atlanta, where she was recognized for her commitment to her community at large.

A native of Arlington, Virginia, she is the proud mother of two children and three grandchildren.
