Amy Bowes
Amy is the Associate Director of the Global Education Office at Duke University. With over 15 years of experience working in higher education and study abroad, Amy is an experienced program,Ā project, and people manager. After completing her undergraduate degree, sheĀ spent two yearsĀ volunteering as a high school English teacher in the Peace Corps (LesothoĀ 2005-2007).
In recognition of her service, Amy received the Paul D. Coverdell fellowship, which covered her graduate degree and living expenses in full. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Religious Studies from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in Comparative Politics and Public Policy from the University of Missouri.Ā
A middle child born in Iowa, Amy moved to Durham from Iowa City in 2019. She loves North Carolina; there’s nothing better than autumn hikes in the mountains, and winter walks on the beach with her rescue dog, Mellie. In her free time, Amy enjoys baking, puzzles, and singing in the Common Woman Chorus, an LGBTQIA+ women’s chorus that performs here in Durham.Ā
